The world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, released its list of nominations for the 2024 award and there is one Indian name in the list.

Pratham Books, the non-profit Indian publisher, has been nominated for this prestigious award. Since 2004, they have been creating engaging storybooks in multiple languages and formats to help children discover the joy of reading.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or an organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. Above all else, it highlights the importance of reading, today and for future generations.

A total of 245 candidates from 68 countries have been nominated for the 2024 award, including 66 candidates new from previous years. The list includes authors and illustrators, as well as storytellers and reading promoters. The laureate will be announced on 9 April 2024 and will be awarded a prize of five million Swedish kronor.
