The winners of BolognaRagazzi Awards (BRAW) 2024, presented by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, have been announced.
The BRAW comprise five main categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Opera Prima (debut works by authors and illustrators), Comics (comic books and graphic novels), and Toddler (BCBF’s new permanent category). A special New Horizons award to a particularly innovative work is assigned by the jury. In addition, each year, one or more Special Award categories are created alongside the main sections.
This year, a total of 3355 were titles submitted by publishers from 65 countries and regions around the world, with emphasis to highlight the most beautiful and innovative picture books published worldwide in the recent period.
Here are the winners of Bologna Ragazzi Awards 2024:
- Fiction 2024 – Kintsugi, written and illustrated by Issa Watanabe, published by Libros del Zorro Rojo.
- Extraordinary Award for an Extraordinary book – Bambini Nascoti (Hidden Children), written and illustrated by Franco Matticchio, published by Vànvere Edizioni.
- Non-Fiction 2024 – Myko, written by Jiří Dvořák, illustrated by Daniela Olejníková and published by Baobab.
- Opera Prima 2024 – Ko darīt, ja esi kails pilsētā (What to Do If You Are Naked in a City?), written and illustrated by Aleksandra Runde, published by Janis Roze Publishers.
- Toddlers 2024 – Dia de Lua (Moon Day), written and illustrated by Renato Moriconi, published by Jujuba Editora.
- New Horizons 2024 – See You In Memories, written and illustrated by Pen So, published by Pen So Artlab.
- The Sea 2024 Special Category – Giù nel blu – Dalla superficie agli abissi: viaggio sottomarino sfogliabile (Down in the Blue – From the Surface to the Abyss: a Browsable Underwater Journey), wriiten by Gianumberto Accinelli, illustrated by Giulia Zaffaroni and published by Nomos Edizioni.
- Comics Early Reader – Comment naissent les arbres (How Trees Are Born), written and illustrated by Charles Berbérian and published by La Martinière Jeunesse.
- Comics Middle Grade – Les Pissenlits (Dandelions), written and illustrated by Nina Six and published by Éditions Sarbacane.
- Comics Young Adult 2024 – Il racconto della roccia (The Rock’s Tale), written and illustrated by BeneDì (Benedetta D’Incau) and published by Coconino Press.
