On 13th September, CMYK Bookstore hosted a film screening of the documentary, Of the Book and Other Stories, followed by an interaction with Naveen Kishore, Sunandini Banerjee and Pushan Kripalani.
The event witnessed a full house audience who watched the documentary with sincere attention. The film beautifully captured the 40 year long journey of Seagull Books and the team, who embraced Seagull as their home. A Q&A session followed the film screening where people asked questions, expressed their joy and shared anecdotes from their personal lives.
The documentary talked about a common thread that bypasses language, culture, geogrpahy, personality and most importantly, the gatekeepers of literature — the thread of passion and feelings which a writer puts in his work; and that is exactly what the documentary also captured: the passion behind Seagull Books.
One topic that was highlighted throughout the session was the prominent decline in reading in today’s day and age. Sunandini Banerjee tackled this with a question instead: “Are we investing enough in the future generation? We see children handed ipads almost every time we visit a restaurant by their parents. Why is that happening?”
